Role Security Profiles

These tasks are completed on the Security Profile Page. For field descriptions, refer to User Security Profiles. For more information on eSchoolPlus security, refer to eSchoolPlus Security Overview.

Add role's security profile

  1. Select Administration > Security > Users > Security Profile.
  2. Click Add, then select Add Role.
  3. On the Profile panel, enter the role's ID and building defaults.
    • To use the user's default building list as the default when you add resources to the role, select the Use User's Default Buildings checkbox.
    • To default a list of buildings when you add resources to the role, select the buildings in the Default Specific Building List field.
  4. Add resources to the role. Refer to the following procedures for details.
  5. Add users to the role. Refer to the following procedures for details.
  6. Click Save.

Add security resources

  1. Select Administration > Security > Users > Security Profile.
  2. Display the role's security profile by searching for the role and then clicking its Login ID link.
  3. Add resources by clicking Add on the top right of the Resources panel.
  4. As needed, click
    (Expand) to display the resources within a package or subpackage.
  5. To grant the access for resources, select the access in the Resources section. If you grant access at the package or subpackage level, the role will grant users the same access for all included resources below the selected level.
    Selections:
    Not Selected - to not add the resource to the user.
    Read - to default the role to read access for the user's default building list.
    Read/Write - to default the role to read/write access for the user's default building list.
    No Default - to not default the role's read or read/write access.
  6. Click OK.
  7. To edit the access selection for a resource, click Edit for the row. Select the access option and buildings. Then, click OK.
    • To grant access to the same buildings for all users, select the Specific option and then select the buildings.
    • To grant access for each user's default building, select the Default Building option.
    • To grant access for each user's default building list, select the Default Building List option.
    Note that selecting the Default Building List option does not indicate that the resource will be granted for the buildings selected in the Role profile's Default Specific Building List field. This option is used to indicate that the user will have access for the buildings in the user's profile Default Building List field.
  8. Click Save.

Assign roles to user

  1. Select Administration > Security > Users > Security Profile.
  2. Display the role's security profile by searching for the role and then clicking its Login ID link.
  3. Select the User IDs in the Users panel.
  4. If needed, override the building access for the resource:
    • For role resources that are set to use the user's Default Building, change the building access if the user should be able to access a building other than the user's default building. In the Override - Default Building field, select the building. This field is inaccessible if none of the role's resources uses the User's Default Building option.
    • For role resources that are set to use the user's Default Building List, change the building access if the user should be able to access buildings other than the user's default building list. In the Override - Default Building List field, select the buildings. This field is inaccessible if none of the role's resources uses the User's Default Building List option.
  5. Click Save.

Change role's resource access

  1. Select Administration > Security > Users > Security Profile.
  2. Display the role's security profile by searching for the role and then clicking its Login ID link.
  3. On the Resources panel, click Edit to edit the access option for a resource.
  4. Select the access option and buildings. Then, click OK.
    • To grant access to the same buildings for all users, select the Specific option and then select the buildings.
    • To grant access for a user's default building, select the Default Building option.
    • To grant access for a user's default building list, select the Default Building List option.
    Note that selecting the Default Building List option does not indicate that the resource will be granted for the buildings selected in the Role profile's Default Specific Building List field. This option is used to indicate that the user will have access for the buildings in the user's profile Default Building List field.
  5. Click Save.

Remove role's access for a resource

  1. Select Administration > Security > Users > Security Profile.
  2. Display the user's security profile by searching for the role and then clicking its Login ID link.
  3. On the Resources panel, select the
    (Delete) checkbox for each record to delete.
  4. Click Save.

Override the user's default buildings for a role

  1. Select Administration > Security > Users > Security Profile.
  2. Display the role's security profile by searching for the role and then clicking its Login ID link.
  3. On the Users panel, review the users.
  4. If needed, override the building access for the resource:
    • For role resources that are set to use the user's Default Building, change the building access if the user should be able to access a building other than the user's default building. In the Override - Default Building field, select the building. This field is inaccessible if none of the role's resources uses the User's Default Building option.
    • For role resources that are set to use the user's Default Building List, change the building access if the user should be able to access buildings other than the user's default building list. In the Override - Default Building List field, select the buildings. This field is inaccessible if none of the role's resources uses the User's Default Building List option.
  5. Click Save.

Remove users from role

  1. Select Administration > Security > Users > Security Profile.
  2. Display the role's security profile by searching for the role and then clicking its Login ID link.
  3. On the Users panel, review the users.
  4. Select the
    (Delete) checkbox for each record to delete.
  5. Click Save.

Delete a role

When you delete a role, the role is removed from all users who were assigned to it.

  1. Select Administration > Security > Users > Security Profile.
  2. Display the security profile by searching for the role and then clicking the Login ID link.
  3. Click
    (Delete).
  4. Click Yes.
