Special Education Language Acquisition Processing

This section describes how to process downloads and extracts for the Special Education Language Acquisition (SELA) Processing collection. This collection will report data on the language acquisition of children who have not turned 9 years of age as of 09/01/YYYY who are deaf or hard of hearing, identified with an auditory impairment or deaf/blindness using the ’02’ Deaf-Blindness (Deaf-Blind), or ‘06’ Deaf and Hard of Hearing (previously, Hearing/Auditory Impairment (Auditory Impairment)) disability category.

Prerequisites

Verify data has been entered for applicable students:

  1. Disability Category of 02 or 06 assigned with Disability Eligibility (Date) and Preferred Home Comm Method selected along with all the data entry requirements. Use menu path: select Registration from main menu, select Entry & Reports submenu, select Student District Defined, and then select District Defined PEIMS Special Education.
  2. Hearing amplification device, access, and average usage. Use menu path: select Registration from main menu, select Entry & Reports submenu, select Student District Defined, and then select Hearing Amplification.
  3. Language acquisition assessment or tool used for assessment and result. Use menu path: select Registration from main menu, select Entry & Reports submenu, select Student District Defined, and then select Language Acquisition Assessment.
  4. Language acquisition services provided, frequency and usage of the services. Use menu path: select Registration from main menu, select Entry & Reports submenu, select Student District Defined, and then select Language Acquisition Services Provided.
  5. Student Program Type assigned for all SELA students, regardless of grade level. Use menu path: select Registration from main menu, select Entry & Reports submenu, select Student District Defined, and then select District Defined PEIMS Demographics.

Download Processing

  1. Select Regulatory from main menu, select Extracts submenu, select Downloads, and then select TSDS Download
  2. In the Download Options panel, specify the following required fields.

    Download Type

    Select All. You can select Student to filter only the Student information.

    Building ListSelect the buildings.
    School YearSelect the school year.
    Submission

    Select SE - Special Education Language Acquisition.

    Run RangeSelect the date range for the download. The download will include all data within the selected dates.
    Task/Report NameEnter a name for the download.
    Select AllCheck to select all applicable Download Prompts.
  3. Specify the additional processing options in the Download Prompts panel. Refer to the Download/Extract Prompts for more information.
  4. Click Run.
  5. To locate the file, click Tasks/Reports on the Navigation bar. The file will be listed on the Tasks and Reports page's Reports panel.

Extract Processing

  1. Select Regulatory from main menu, select Extracts submenu, select Extracts, and then select TSDS Extract.
  2. In the Extract Options panel, specify the following required fields.

    Select All. You can select Student to filter only the Student information.

    Building ListSelect the buildings.
    School YearSelect the school year.
    Submission

    Select SE - Special Education Language Acquisition.

    Task/Report NameEnter a name for the extract.
    Select AllCheck to select all applicable Extract Prompts.
  3. Specify the additional processing options in the Extract Prompts panel. Refer to the Download/Extract Prompts for more information.
  4. Click Run.
  5. Check the log file for errors.
  6. To locate the file, click Tasks/Reports on the Navigation bar. The file will be listed on the Tasks and Reports page's Reports panel. Save it to your local machine.

Download/Extract Prompts

This section describes the complex types used for SELA Processing, and any special conditions that apply.

The specified Run Range dates are used to select students for the submission. This complex type includes students who meet the following rules:

  • Who have not turned 9 years of age as of 09/01/YYYY.
  • Assigned a Disability Category of 02 or 06 on the District Defined PEIMS Special Education page.
  • Have data for the current school year entered on the Hearing Amplification, Language Acquisition Assessment, and Language Acquisition Services Provided pages.
Student Special Ed Program Association (STUPROGRAM)

The specified Run Range dates are used to select students for the submission. This complex type includes students who meet the following rules:

  • Who have not turned 9 years of age as of 09/01/YYYY.
  • Assigned a Disability Category of 02 or 06 on the District-Defined PEIMS Special Education page.
  • Have data for the current school year entered on the Hearing Amplification, Language Acquisition Assessment, and Language Acquisition Services Provided pages.

In addition, the following conditions must be met:

  • Special Ed Program start date must be less than the SELA Processing record end date and the Special Ed Program end date must be greater than the SELA Processing record start date.
  • Disability Category start date must be less than the SELA Processing record end date and the Disability Category end date must be greater than the SELA Processing record start date.

Refer to the Special Ed Program section for more information on how Special Ed data is reported.

Additional Information

If the Tool or Assessment Used is selected as Not Assessed in the Language Acquisition Assessment page, the Assessment Results Obtained field must have the value No Results Obtained selected to not get reported in the Special Education Language Acquisition submission report.
