Whiteboard Help Installation and Troubleshooting

On this page:

If no content displays in the Help Viewer or Dynamic Help pane in Whiteboard, you may need to install the help viewer software on your PC.

Requirements: You must have Administrative rights in order to install the Help Viewer software. For Whiteboard users who do not have privileges to install the MadCap Help Viewer software locally on their own computers, it is likely that your network administrator is able to remotely deploy the MadCap Help Viewer software to these users.

Check if you have the correct version of the MadCap Help Viewer installed on your PC

  1. Select Start > Programs > MadCap Software > MadCap HelpViewer Vx (where x is the version number of the Help Viewer installed on your PC).
    • If you do not have a menu option for the MadCap Help Viewer, go to the next procedure to download and install the MadCap Help Viewer. Otherwise, go to step 2.
  2. In the MadCap Help Viewer window, select Help > About.
    • If the MadCap Help Viewer version information in the MadCap logo screen is "6.1.0 - 6/24/2010:2:21 PM" you have the correct version of the software.
    • If the MadCap Help Viewer version information is different, please contact the help desk. You may need to uninstall the version of the Help Viewer on your PC, reboot your PC, and then follow the procedure below to download and install the correct version of the help viewer.
  3. Click the MadCap logo screen to return to the main MadCap Help Viewer window, then close the window.

Download and install the MadCap Help Viewer

  1. If you have Whiteboard open, exit the application.
  2. Download MadCap Help Viewer 6.1 from the MadCap website:
    http://www.madcapsoftware.com/downloads/redistributables.aspx
    Direct Link:
    http://downloads.madcapsoftware.com/helpviewer060/SetupMadCapHelpViewer0610.msi
    Note
: We currently require MadCap Help Viewer 6.1. Please do not install any other version of the MadCap Help Viewer. If the above links do not work, please contact the help desk and ask them to send you MadCap Help Viewer 6.1.

  3. Install MadCap Help Viewer 6.1. Administrator rights for the PC are required to install this software.
  4. Run the Help Viewer by selecting Start > Programs > MadCap Software > MadCap HelpViewer V6.
Note: You must open the Help Viewer for the first time from the Start menu so the software can initialize settings.
  5. Close the Help Viewer, then start Whiteboard. Check the Dynamic Help pane and the Help Viewer (press <F1>) to make sure help displays.
  6. If no help content displays, contact the help desk for additional assistance.

Additional Tips

  • If you uninstall an older or newer version of the help viewer, reboot your PC before you install the v 6.1 version of the help viewer.
  • If you do not see the help displayed in the help viewer, you may need to reboot your PC after installing the help viewer.
  • Your district's network security and configuration determine whether you have sufficient rights to install the help viewer. You may need to ask an IT staff member to install the help viewer, as administrator rights for the PC are required.
