Test Score At Risk Setup Page

On this page:

Use this page to define the standardized testing criteria that are used to calculate entrance and exit from an at risk reason. The Tests Calculation for At Risk (Interventions > All > At Risk > Tests Calculation) evaluates test score information for students based on the defined criteria to create and exit at risk records.

There are four parts that can be defined to specify how student test scores should be used to identify at risk students.

  • Student selection criteria: Use the criteria to limit the test score criteria to a group of students. For example, if students in grades 2 and 3 take the same test, but higher test results are expected for students in grade 3, you may create two criteria. One criteria would select students in grade 2 and the other criteria would select students in grade 3.
  • Entrance criteria: All criteria must include entrance criteria. Entrance criteria specifies the test score criteria that indicate that the student is at risk. For example, you may define a criteria for tracking students who are scoring 40% or below on the Gates-McGinitie Reading Tests ® reading comprehension subtest. An at risk record will be created by the At-Risk Calculation when the student meets an entrance criteria, and the student does not meet the exception criteria.
  • Exit criteria: You may define exit criteria if you want the system to enter an exit date for testing at risk factors when a student's score has improved to meet the exit criteria. For example, you may define an exit criteria of 50% or above on the Gates-McGinitie Reading Tests ® reading comprehension subtest so that the at risk factor is closed for students who had previously scored 40% or below. A student's at risk record for the criteria will be updated to include an exit date by the At-Risk Calculation when the student meets the exit criteria.
  • Exception criteria: You may define exception criteria if you want to specify test score information that exempts students from the at risk factor. If a student meets any exception criteria, the student will not be at risk for this criteria.

Fields

Definition Panel

Field

Description

Qualification

Code for the at risk qualification criteria that will be assigned to students who meet this criteria. Character/5

Qualification Reason

Select the Student Success Plan or at risk reason that will be assigned to students who meet this criteria.

Description

Description of the at risk reason that will be assigned to students who meet this criteria. Character/255

Select Students Section

If you want to limit the students processed by the at risk criteria, use this section to specify criteria to select the students to whom the criteria applies. You can select students based on data from Registration, Academic, Personal, and student district-defined tables.

Entrance Criteria, Exit Criteria, and Exception Criteria Panels

The three panels are used to define the at risk criteria for tests. The same fields display on all three panels.

A test score criterion must be unique. There are two situations where you can use the same test score multiple times.

  • If there are different at risk criteria for the same score based on the test date, you can specify a range of test dates in each criterion in order to make the criterion unique. For example, you may define two criteria to process students who took the test between 9/5/2014 and 6/25/2015 to be calculated as at risk if they scored less than 300 for the reading score and students who took the test since 9/2/2015 to be calculated as at risk if they score less than 250.
  • If there are different at risk criteria for the same score based on the student's grade at the time the student took the test, you can specify a grade in each criterion in order to make the criterion unique.

Field

Description

Entrance/Exit/Exception Criteria Based On

The sort to apply when evaluating test score records for a student.

Select:

Most Recent Score - to compare the criteria to the most recent test date for the student.
Highest Score - to compare the criteria to the highest score that the student has for the test score. If a criterion is defined for a test score that is defined as a character field, a character sort will be applied. An example of a character sort in order from highest to lowest would be: Z, A, 9, 4, 30, 3, 2, 10, 1.
Lowest Score - to compare the criteria to the lowest score that the student has for the test score. If a criterion is defined for a test score that is defined as a character field, a character sort will be applied. An example of a character sort in order from lowest to highest would be: 1, 10, 2, 3, 30, 4, 9, A, Z.

Start Date

The first date in the range of test dates to which the criterion applies. Test scores are compared to the criterion in which the test date is included. The range is inclusive of the start date and end date.

If the criterion applies to all test dates, leave this field blank.

When adding a new range of test dates for a score, the start date cannot overlap with the end date of another criterion for the score.

End Date

The last date in the range of test dates to which the criterion applies. Test scores are compared to the criterion in which the test date is included. The range is inclusive of the start date and end date.

If the criterion applies to all test dates, leave this field blank. If the criterion applies to all test dates after the specified start date, leave this field blank.

When adding a new range of test dates for a score, the end date of another criterion cannot overlap with the start date of the new criterion.

Test

Standardized test from which you want to select the score for the criterion.

Level

Level of the standardized test from which you want to select the score for the criterion.

To include all levels defined for the selected test, leave this field blank.

Form

Form of the standardized test from which you want to select the score for the criterion.

To include all forms defined for the selected test and level, leave this field blank

Subtest

Subtest from which you want to select the score for the criterion.

Grade

If the criterion only applies to students who took the test while in a specific grade, enter the grade. For example, if students in both grades 2 and 3 take the same test, but the at risk threshold for students in grade 2 is different from grade 3, you could define two entrance criteria for the test score and specify a grade for each criterion.

Score

Standardized test score to use for criterion.

Condition

Comparison condition to use when evaluating the criterion.

Select:

= (equals)

> (is greater than)

>= (is greater than or equal to)

< (is less than)

<= (is less than or equal to)

is in (comma delimited list)

<> (is not equal to)

If the score you selected is defined to store character values on the Score Definition Detail page, records will be sorted as character values. The sort will affect the results that are returned by the > and < conditions. For example, if the values for a score were 1, 2, 3,...9,10 and you entered a condition of >=10, then the values 2, 3,...9,10 would meet your criteria because when the values are sorted as characters, the order is 1, 10, 2, 3,...9. Additionally, if you entered a condition of >=9, the value 10 will not meet the condition.

Value

Value to use when evaluating the criterion.
