Search Favorite Procedures

Following are procedures for creating, retrieving, and managing favorites on certain Search pages in eSchoolPlus.

Save search criteria as a favorite

The Student Search page as well as several other search pages in eSchoolPlus allow saving your search criteria as a favorite. The favorites feature is available if the Favorite Searches icon displays on a page's Search Criteria title bar.

  1. Create a simple or advanced search or retrieve a favorite.
  2. On the Search Criteria panel, click the Additional Options icon, then select one of the following options:

    Save Search

    Displays the Save Search window for saving a new favorite. Note the following exceptions:

    • If you are changing a favorite you created, selecting Save Search saves your changes immediately without displaying the window.
    • If you are using a subscribed favorite, you cannot access the Save Search option unless you have the security resource for overwriting published favorites: SYSTEM MAINT EDTPUBSRCH. Instead, you must save the favorite under a new name using Save Search As.

    Save Search As

    Displays the Save Search As window, which enables you to save an existing favorite under a new name or to change any of the other settings listed in Step 3.

  3. Complete the fields in the Save Search or Save Search As window:

    Title

    Enter the favorite's name.

    Area

    Select an option to categorize the favorite.

    Description

    Enter notes describing the favorite

    Publish

    Select the checkbox to share your favorite with others.

    Subscribed Users/Roles

    If you selected Publish, you can use the field's drop-down list to select the users that will automatically be subscribed to the search. The selected users and users with one of the selected roles will also see the search in favorite searches. This field does not limit who can subscribe to a search; any user may subscribe to a published search.

  4. Click Save.

Save Student Search criteria as a favorite for Teacher Account users

You can create Student Search favorites that TAC users can access when they access eSchoolPlus from TAC. A new page option, Switch to Teacher Account Searches, displays on the Student Search page and changes the mode of the page so you can save searches to the Teacher Account profile.

  1. Navigate to the Student Search page by selecting any student page option.
  2. On the Search Criteria panel, create a simple or advanced student search, or retrieve a favorite by clicking the View Favorites icon on the Search Criteria panel.
  3. Click the Additional options icon at the top right of the page, and select Switch to Teacher Account Searches.
  4. On the Search Criteria panel, click the Additional options icon, then select one of the following options:

    Save Search

    Displays the Save Search window for saving a new favorite. Note the following exceptions:

    • If you are changing a favorite you created, selecting Save Search saves your changes immediately without displaying the Save Search window.
    • If you are using a subscribed favorite, you cannot access the Save Search option unless you have the security resource for overwriting published favorites: SYSTEM MAINT EDTPUBSRCH. Instead, you must click Save Search As to save the favorite under a new name.

    Save Search As

    Displays the Save Search As window; this enables you to save an existing favorite under a new name or to change any of the other settings listed in Step 5.

  5. Complete the fields in the Save Search or Save Search As window:

    Title

    Enter the favorite's name.

    Area

    Select an option to categorize the favorite.

    Description

    Enter notes describing the favorite.

    Publish

    Select this checkbox.

    Subscribed Users/Roles

    Use the field's drop-down list to select the desired Teacher Account Profile for the staff that should have access to this search favorite.

  6. Click Save.

Retrieve and manage favorites

The Student Search page as well as several other search pages in eSchoolPlus allow saving your search criteria as a favorite. The favorites feature is available if the Favorite Searches icon displays on a page's Search Criteria title bar.

  1. On the Search Criteria panel's title bar, click the Favorite Searches icon.
  2. In the Search Favorites window:
    • Retrieve a favorite by clicking its name link on the My Searches or Subscriptions panel. This retrieves your criteria and search results, as well as your field and sort settings.
    • Display the Save Search window for a favorite by clicking its Edit icon. For information on using this window, refer to the previous procedure on saving a search as a favorite.
    • Delete a favorite by clicking the Delete icon.
    • Add published favorites to your Subscriptions list by clicking Subscribe.
      • In the Search Publications window, select the Subscribe box for each favorite you want to subscribe to.
      • Use the blank fields at the top to search for published favorites.
      • Click OK to save your subscriptions and close the window.
  3. Click Close to close the Search Favorites window.
