MSB Course Setup Utility

Use this page to create course setup records for every active course in your Building Course Catalog. The number of sections needed for a course are calculated based on the number of student requests for the course divided by the Default Maximum Seats value in the Scheduling Building Configuration. You can then modify the records, as needed, on the Course Setup Page.

When you run the option to rebuild setup records, existing records may be updated. If you have made changes to the number of sections, do not run this option with Update Sections selected. Ideally, users should not manually update the Number of Sections value in the Course Setup option until most student requests have been loaded and you have run the MSB Course Setup Utility to minimize the number of courses that need to have the number of sections value updated manually.

Add course setup records

  1. Select Scheduling > Courses > Master Schedule Builder > Course Setup Utility.
  2. Select the building.
  3. Complete the page's additional fields. For descriptions, refer below.
  4. Click Run.

Building

Select the building of the course catalog you are creating course setup records for.

Interval

Scheduling interval for the course requests to include.

Submit As

Indicates the action that occurs.

Select:

Build - to create records for each active course. Sections are created based on the number of requests and the Default Max Seats value in the Scheduling Building Configuration. This option is only used when no course setup records exist.
Erase - to remove all course setup records.
Rebuild - to update the number of requests for old records, delete records for courses that are no longer active, and create records for new courses.

Default Meeting Code

Select the meeting code to assign to each course-section. This should be the most common code.

Available in Build and Rebuild only.

Update Maximum Number of Students

Checked if you want to rebuild course-setup sections based on the Default Max Seats in the Scheduling Configuration.

Available in Rebuild only.

Update Meeting Code

Checked if you want to reset the duration for existing course-setup sections.

Available in Rebuild only.

Update Sections

Checked if you want to recalculate the number of sections that are needed for a course based on the number of requests for the course divided by the max number of seats as specified in the Scheduling Building Configuration.

If you have manually changed the number of sections for a course, the value will be reset to the number of sections calculated by the system.

Delete Unneeded Sections

Checked if you want to delete course-sections that are no longer needed because requests for the course have decreased.
