Create Competences from State Standards

Use this page to create competency records based on state or national standards. This option creates template Competency Groups that you can use as a starting point for creating your own Competency Groups. These templates are loaded from files generated from PerformancePlus standards library.

Competency item records are created based on the competencies that have been loaded, the Competency Group specified, and the Building Type selected. When state competency records are created, the Competency Type is set to "Not Determined." You can select whether the competency group is linked to a Student or to a Course, as needed, in the Competency Setup.

You cannot select a Competency Group/Building Type combination that already exists in the database. Additionally, you cannot enter a Competency Group more than once unless the Building Types are the same on those rows. If you select the same Competency Group code for more than one row, the details for those rows will be loaded into the same Competency Group. For example, you may want to create a Competency Group that contains all of the competencies for the subjects common to all third graders, so you could assign the same Competency Group and Building Type to Math, Reading, and Science for Grade 3.

Create Competencies

  1. Select Administration > Utilities > Mark Reporting > Create Competencies from State Standards.
  2. For each row of standards, specify how to create competencies.
    • Competency Group - Enter the code for the competency group; for example, MA06. Each group code must be unique; therefore, you cannot add a state group with a competency group code already used for a district group, or vice versa. [Character/10]
    • Building Type - Select the building type that will use these state standards, for example, Elementary, Middle School, or High School.
    • Grading Scale - Select the grading scale to assign to the competencies.
    • Exclude - Select this checkbox if you do not want to create competencies for the standards.
  3. Click Run.
  4. Use the Tasks/Reports options on the Navigation bar to view task status and retrieve reports.
