Adding Secondary Staff as a Push-In or Pull-Out Teacher

Scheduling > Courses > Course Sections > Master Schedule

A push-in/pull-out teacher is a staff member who is responsible for a portion of the students in a course-section for a portion of the instructional time. The term is based on the idea that the teacher either is "pushed into" the classroom or "pulls students out of" the classroom, figuratively speaking.

To set up a Secondary Staff member as a push-in/pull-out teacher:

  1. Access the appropriate course-section in the Master Schedule.
  2. On the Session Information panel, find the Session section for the course-section session you want to update.
  3. In the Staff and Room Information section for the appropriate session, click the Secondary Staff link.
  4. In the Staff Date Tracking dialog:
    • Select the Staff member acting as the push-in/pull-out teacher, and enter a Start Date.
    • If the teacher provides the same number of minutes for all associated students in the course-section session, enter the appropriate value in the Push In/Pull Out Time Override field. Otherwise you will enter Minutes values for individual students in Step 8.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Select Scheduling > Courses > Course Sections > Student Linking.
  7. Check the associated box for each student served by the Secondary Staff member, and assign a relationship Start Date for each student.
  8. If the staff member does not have a uniform minute value for all associated students, you need to enter the appropriate Minutes value for each student. Your entry depends on the course building's Pull-Out Minutes Format configuration. Refer to the PA State Information section or Pull Out Format section for more information.
  9. Enter the Start Date that the student/staff relationship begins if it is different from the Staff Start Date for the course.
  10. Enter the End Date that the student/staff relationship ends if it is different from the Staff End Date for the course.
  11. For the Responsibility field, enter the % Instructional Responsibility Weight for the particular staff/student relationship ONLY if it is different than the Instructional Responsibility Weight value for the staff member on the Staff Date Tracking screen. The value must be entered in whole numbers (1-100).
  12. For the Relationship field, enter the % Instructional Relationship Weight for the particular staff/student relationship ONLY if it is different than the Instructional Relationship Weight Override value for the staff member on the Staff Date Tracking page. The value must be entered in whole numbers (1-100). This field can be used to set a % Instructional Relationship Weight for scenarios that do not easily fit into available setups (ex. Secondary staff member seeing a student once every 2 weeks regardless of cycle days).
  13. Click Save.
