Liberty Partnerships Program | 4004 |
Science and Tech. Ed. Program | 4015 |
NYS P-Tech Program | 4026 |
Smart Scholars | 4037 |
NYC P-Tech Grades 9-14 Program | 4027 |
For programs 4026 (NYS P-Tech Program) and 4027 (NYC P-Tech Grades 9-14 Program), the SIRS Programs Fact template calculates the student's Program Duration, measured in years with the value ranging from 1 year to a maximum of 6 years.
To calculate Program Duration, the NY SIRS Download looks at Start and End Dates for a student's NYS P-Tech Program or NYC P-Tech Grades 9-14 Program. Specifically, the download isolates each range of consecutive dates when the student is active in one of these programs, subtracting the date range Start Date year from the End Date year. The download adds together the year duration for each continuous set of dates, and the result is the Program Duration for the program.
To see how the calculation works, consider the date ranges for two hypothetical students in the NYC P-Tech Grades 9-14 Program:
Student A
Start Date | End Date |
---|---|
08/25/2015 | 08/28/2016 |
08/29/2016 | 08/27/2017 |
08/28/2017 | Blank End Date (The download uses 06/30 for the school year, in this case 06/30/2018) |
Student B
Start Date | End Date |
---|---|
08/25/2015 | 08/28/2016 |
08/29/2016 | 08/27/2017 |
09/01/2017 | 09/17/2017 |
Based on these dates, Student A gets a Program Duration of 3, and Student B gets a Program Duration of 2. Note Student A has no interruption in program participation, so you subtract 2015 from 2018 to arrive at 3.
For Student B, the first continuous duration runs from 08/25/2015 until 08/27/2017, 2 years (2017 minus 2015). The next continuous duration runs from 09/01/2017 through 09/17/2017. Since the difference between the start and end year equals zero, the final calculated Program Duration is 2 years (2 + 0) for Student B.

This program includes four sets of the date-tracked fields listed above. The Course field identifies two pieces of information. It identifies which course the student takes, and it indicates the reason for taking the course. Based on SIRS definitions, course reasons are as follows:
- Reason A — This is the first time the student has taken this program, or the student is taking this program for advanced enrichment.
- Reason B — The student is taking this program as academic intervention, to improve his/her grades, or because the student is at risk of failing State tests.
These are the Program Service Codes for summer courses, including the distinctions for the reasons the student took the course. Remember to pick the code identifying why the student took the indicated course:
