Passing Time Calculation for Day Totals
Passing time is the length of time available between the end of the previous period and the start of the new period. For day totals calculation using minutes, you can select to use the Include Passing Time to include the passing time between two periods in the instructional minutes for the day. In addition, you can also select which courses should be included when counting instructional minutes. For example, you can set up a lunch class so that the minutes for lunch and the passing time to and from lunch are not included in a student's minutes.
Understanding how Passing Time minutes are calculated
The following example illustrates how minutes are calculated when an attendance view does not use the Include Passing Time option for the Day Totals calculation.

Total Minutes for Day | 350 |
If your day totals view is defined to include passing time, the passing time between periods is included when the student is traveling from one course to another where both courses are defined to be included in the passing time calculation. If a course is not included in the passing time calculation, the minutes for the course and the passing minutes for travel to and from the course will not be included in total minutes.
The following example illustrates how minutes are calculated when the Include Passing Time option is checked for the attendance view. Note that the time for Lunch and the passing time from US History I to Lunch and Lunch to Biology is not included in the Day Total minutes.
