Section 31a At Risk Processing

The following checklist provides student entry and calculations needed to get accurate, up-to-date MI At-Risk eligibility information for the Spring General Collection's Program Participation component.

For a list of the set up prerequisites for at risk processing, refer to Setting up for Section 31a At Risk.

Student Entry Prerequisites

  1. If a student is a victim of child abuse or neglect, make sure the Child Victim of Abuse/Neglect box is checked on the MI Child Victim page. (Registration > Entry & Reports > Student District Defined > MI Child Victim)
  2. If the student's family has a history of school failure, incarceration, or substance abuse, make sure the appropriate boxes are checked on the MI Family History page. (Registration > Entry & Reports > Student District Defined > MI Family History)
  3. For any student who is a pregnant teen or teen parent, make sure the Teen Parent or Pregnancy box is checked on the MI Teen Parent page. (Registration > Entry & Reports > Student District Defined > MI Teen Parent)
  4. The MI At-Risk Calculation determines at-risk eligibility for several characteristics based on data in the following student fields:
    • Program with State Code Equiv of MIMEAL, tracked on the student Personal page's Meal Status field.
    • Program with State Code Equiv of MIHOME, tracked on the student Personal page's Homeless Status field.
    • Migrant field on student Personal page.
    • Program with State Code Equiv of LEPPART, tracked on the student Personal page's ESL field.
    • Program with State Code Equiv of IMMSTAT, tracked on the student MI SDS page's Immigrant Status field.
  5. To track a student who is not on track to complete high school in four years, enter the up-to-date expected graduation year in the student Academic page's Adjusted Graduation Year (9-12) field. (Registration > Entry & Reports > Student Demographic > Academic)
  6. To indicate a student has no state or local assessment data, update the No Assessment Data program on the student MI SDS Page.  This tells the MI At-Risk Calculation to process the student differently than if assessment data were available. (Registration > Entry & Reports > Student District Defined > MI SDS)

Processing Steps

  1. Run the test scores at-risk calculation for the Qualification Codes you set up to determine state assessment and, if applicable, local assessment at-risk factors through students' Test History records. (Interventions > All > At Risk > Tests Calculation)
  2. Run the Report Card At-Risk Calculation for each building where you created a Report Card At Risk Setup.  Do this based on up-to-date Mark Type information for the Report Card Run you process. (Interventions > All > At Risk > Report Cards Calculation)
  3. Run the Day Totals Calculation for your buildings' daily attendance view type, through today's date. (Attendance > All > Utilities > Day Totals Calculation)
  4. By building, run the Attendance Criteria Calculation through the Spring General Collection's Date of Count for the at-risk Notification Criteria records you created. (Interventions > All > At Risk > Attendance Criteria Calculation)
  5. Review At Risk Detail for students for the calculated state assessment, local assessment, and attendance At-Risk Factors. To set a manual override for any of the calculated At-Risk Factors, select the appropriate Value, and make sure the associated Ovr box is checked. Note that the Overall At Risk value on this page applies to base eSchoolPlus at-risk processing, not Section 31a MI At-Risk eligibility. (Interventions > All > Student > At Risk Detail)
  6. To calculate student's overall MI At-Risk eligibility for Section 31a program participation, run the At Risk Calculator.  Use the Spring General Collection's Date of Count. (Regulatory > MI Utilities > MI Utilities > SDS At Risk Calculator)

Download Review Procedures

  1. After you run the Spring General Collection SDS Download, you can review details on the individual at-risk characteristics determining the student's overall MI Section 31a status. Use the MI SDS Student Summary page's MI At Risk Calculation panel. (Regulatory > Summary > Download Search >Student Download Summary)
  2. If you need to manually override a student's calculated MI Section 31a At-Risk status, you can do so using the MI At Risk Override program on the student's MI SDS page.  Select Y if the download should report the 3060 Program Participation code for the student. Make sure to re-run the SDS Download, Spring General Collection, for the student.
