ISBE IAR Pre-ID Accommodations

Use this page to record the student's IAR (Illinois Assessments of Readiness) testing accommodations for Math and ELA tests. This information is part of a student's IAR Pre-ID record. Following the field descriptions, we provide a chart showing business rules for each accommodation.

Color Contrast (Math and ELA)

Selection indicating the student requires a color contrast accommodation for an online or paper test.

  • A student with the 07 – Color Overlay selection requires Test Format of P – Paper.  Selections 01 through 06 require Test Format of O – Online.
  • Separate settings are available for ELA and Math.
Large Print (Math and ELA)

Checked if the student requires a Large Print Booklet for a paper exam.

  • This applies only for the Paper Test Format.
  • The student needs an active IEP Indicator or 504 Indicator.
  • Separate settings are available for ELA and Math.
Word Prediction (ELA only)

Checked if the student uses an external word prediction device.

  • The student needs an active IEP Indicator or 504 Indicator.
  • This accommodation only applies to the ELA test.
Answer Masking (Math and ELA)Checked if the student uses an answer-masking feature to cover portions of a question until appropriate. Separate settings are available for ELA and Math.
Extended Time (Math and ELA)

Selection indicating the student gets extra time.

  • The student needs an active IEP Indicator, 504 Indicator, or ELL Program.
  • Separate settings are available for ELA and Math.
Monitor Test Response (Math and ELA)

Checked if the test administrator or assigned accommodator monitors placement of student responses on a test booklet.

  • The student needs an active IEP Indicator or 504 Indicator.
  • Separate settings are available for ELA and Math.
Answers Rec in Test Book (Math and ELA)

Checked if the student records answers directly in the test book.

  • This only applies for the Paper Test Format.
  • The student needs an active IEP Indicator or 504 Indicator.
  • Separate settings are available for ELA and Math.
Braille Response (Math and ELA)

Setting indicating a blind or visually impaired student has answers captured by a Braille Writer or note taker.

  • The student needs an active IEP Indicator or 504 Indicator.
  • Separate settings are available for ELA and Math.
EBAE/English Braille (Math and ELA)

Selection indicating if the student gets a hard copy Braille test booklet with embedded tactile graphics.

  • This only applies for the Paper Test Format.
  • If this accommodation has a submitted value of 11, then Large Print must be submitted as 02-No or blank.
  • Separate settings are available for ELA and Math.
ASL Video (Math and ELA)

Checked if a student taking a computer-based test gets American Sign Language content provided through a video.

  • The following fields must be un-checked or set with the selection 00 - None: Text-to-Speech; AT Screen Reader App; Closed Captioning for ELA/L; Human Reader or Signer; Spanish Transadaptation for Math
  • This only applies for the Online Test Format.
  • The student needs an active IEP Indicator or 504 Indicator.
  • Separate settings are available for ELA and Math.
Human Reader or Signer (Math and ELA)

Setting indicating the student gets a proctored version of the test. Separate settings are available for ELA and Math.

If your selection is 03 or 04 for ELA, make sure the following ELA accomodations are set with an un-checked box or a selection of 00 - None: ASL Video, AT Screen Reader App, Closed Caption, Refreshable Braille Disp, and Text-to-Speech.

For the Math setting, the same relationship applies for ASL Video, AT Screen Reader, and Text-to-Speech.

For the ELA tests, the student needs an active IEP Indicator or 504 Indicator.

AT Screen Reader App (Math and ELA)

Setting determining the Screen Reader Application used to deliver a computer-based test form.

  • This only applies for the Online Test Format.
  • The student needs an active IEP Indicator or 504 Indicator.
  • For additional details on submitting this accommodation to Pearson, refer to the ISBE web site's ISBE SIS Data Elements page > All in One Data Elements Document.

If you select 05 - Screen Reader or 06 - Non-Screen Reader, make sure the following additional criteria are met:

  • For the Math test, ASL Video must be un-checked; Spanish Transadaptation must be un-checked; Text-to-Speech must be 00-None; Human Reader or Signer must be 00 - None.
  • For the ELA test, ASL Video must be un-checked; Closed Caption must be un-checked; Text-to-Speech must be 00 - None; Human Reader or Signer must be 00 - None.
Text-to-Speech (Math and ELA)

Setting indicating if the student gets test content read aloud via Text-to-Speech embedded within TestNav8.

Following are the business rules for the ELA Text-to-Speech accommodation:

  • If you select the value 11, make sure you also follow these rules for other ELA accommodations:
    • ASL Video box must be un-checked.
    • AT Screen Reader must be 00 - None.
    • Closed Caption box must be un-checked.
    • Refreshable Braille Display must be un-checked.
    • Human Reader or Signer must be 00 - None.
  • The student needs an active IEP Indicator or 504 Indicator.

Following are the business rules for the Math Text-to-Speech accommodation:

  • If you select a value of 12, 13, 14, or 15, make sure you also follow these rules for other Math accommodations:
    • ASL Video box must be un-checked.
    • AT Screen Reader must be 00 - None.
    • Spanish Transadaptation box must be 02 - No.
    • Human Reader or Signer must be 00 - None.
  • If the selected value is 14 or 15, the student needs an active ELL program.

This accommodation only applies for the Online Test Format.

Dictionary Native Lang (Math and ELA)

Checked if the student uses a published word-to-word hand-held dictionary.

  • Student needs an active ELL program.
  • Separate settings are available for ELA and Math.
Calculation Device (Math only)

Selection indicating the student is allowed to use a calculator as an accommodation, including for items designated in non-calculator sections. The student may also use an arithmetic table or other manipulatives.
A student must be provided a hand-held calculator and/or mathematics tools.

  • Student needs an active IEP Indicator or 504 Indicator.
  • This only applies for Math tests.
Closed Caption (ELA only)

Checked if the student gets closed captioning and subtitling for a computer-based test.

  • The following accommodations must be un-checked or set as 00 - None if the student uses closed captioning: Text-to-Speech; ASL Video; AT Screen Reader App; Human Reader or Signer.
  • This only applies for the Online Test Format.
  • Student needs an active IEP Indicator or 504 Indicator.
  • This only applies for ELA tests.
Spanish Transadaptation (Math only)

Setting indicating if a Spanish language form needs to be administered for this student.

  • If the student receives this accommodation, make sure the following additional Math accommodation rules are met: ASL Video is un-checked; AT Screen Reader App must be 00 - None; Text-to-Speech must be 00 - None. See the Note below for more information on Text-to-Speech.
  • The student needs an active ELL program.
  • This only applies for Math tests.

Note: If the student needs Spanish translation and Text-to-Speech, use the following selections for Math accommodations:

  • Clear the Spanish Transadaptation box.
  • For Text-to-Speech, select either 14 or 15, as appropriate.
Refreshable Braille Disp (ELA only)Checked if the student uses an external device to convert Screen Reader text into Braille.
  • If the student receives this accommodation, then the ELA AT Screen Reader App selection must be 05.
  • This only applies for the Online Test Format.
  • The student needs an active IEP Indicator or 504 Indicator.
  • This only applies for ELA tests.
Response (Math only)

Setting indicating how a student's response is captured for a Math test.

The student needs an active IEP Indicator or 504 Indicator.

Constructed Response (ELA only)

Setting indicating how a student's response is captured for Constructed Response item types on an ELA test.

The student needs an active IEP Indicator or 504 Indicator.

Response EL (Math only)Setting indicating the student's response is captured by an external Speech-to-Text device or human scribe.
  • The student needs an active ELL program.
  • This only applies for Math tests.
Selected Response (ELA only)

Setting indicating how the student's response is captured for ELA tests.

The student needs an active IEP Indicator or 504 Indicator.

IAR Pre-ID Accommodation Validation

The IAR Pre-ID Download validates student test accommodations from the ISBE IAR Pre-ID Accommodations page. The download verifies each accommodation:

  • Applies to the Test Format for a given record, whether it is Paper or Online.
  • Applies for the record's test subject, whether it is an ELA or a Math test.
  • Meets student program prerequisites, if any.
